Provide instructions for your family after your death

When you have loved ones who count on you, the thought of losing you might be frightening to them. One of the ways that you can make this transition to life without you easier on them is to have your estate plan set up. At a minimum, your estate plan is going to include a will, but there are also other components that might come into the picture to ensure that your wishes are clearly conveyed.

We can help you get your estate plan all set. We will discuss your wishes with you so that we know what options might help you. Once we give you this information, you will decide how to handle the estate plan.

There are a few things that you might want to think about as you are working on this. The first of these is privacy. If your family is going to have to enter a will into probate, this becomes a public record. Anyone who is interested can know exactly what went to who. In order to avoid this and have a private transfer of assets, you can establish trusts that don't have to go through the public probate process.

Another thing for you to consider is that your final days might come with medical decisions. Who is going to make health care decisions for you if you can't make them? Whoever you just said needs to have the power of attorney for health care so he or she can do this. Make sure this person knows about anything you feel strongly about. For example, if you don't want to be placed on a ventilator, make this known. You can even put it in a living will or advanced directive.
