An Overview Of Our Practice

When Nancy M. Rice began her career as a lawyer in 1986, the field of elder law had just begun to evolve. Estate planning attorneys who generally prepared wills, powers of attorney and living wills and handled probate, guardianships and will contests began to realize a need to plan for elder care – the long-term “custodial” care of aging clients.

The increasing costs of end-of-life care and the increased life span of our nation’s older residents necessitated the development of a field of law that could effectively plan estates in order to assure that clients received the best care possible. Now that New Jersey has eliminated the State Estate Tax, effective January 1, 2018, a focus on long-term care planning and dealing with nursing home issues is becoming even more prevalent.

Ms. Rice and Pamela A. Quattrone are certified elder law attorneys (CELAs) pursuant to the requirements of the National Elder Law Foundation. In order to serve our clients with the highest quality of counsel possible, our firm focuses on this complex area of law.

Make Plans Today To Preserve Your Assets Tomorrow

Until a crisis strikes, many people are unaware that Medicare and most private health insurance policies do not cover much of the costs of care defined as “custodial.” This comes as a major shock to people who then realize that they can only qualify for Medicaid benefits if their estates are largely depleted.

If you, your spouse or your aging parents are considering the need for home care, assisted living or nursing home care, you should consult an elder law attorney to help formulate a financial plan to ensure that long-term care expenses can be paid, while still preserving the assets that you or your parents worked so long to build.
